Sergey Pekarsky, Ph.D. consults on various topics of digital assets (including cryptocurrencies), capital markets and derivatives. Sergey has more than 20 years of financial markets experience spanning traditional finance (“TradFi”) and the digital economy.
Most recently Sergey was head of crypto derivatives at BlockFi, a prime-broker in the cryptocurrency space, where he led BlockFi’s efforts in providing institutional clients with cryptocurrency derivative solutions and other structured products. Sergey’s scope included spot and derivatives trading and lending, tokenization, and “Real World Assets” as well as covering aspects of the decentralized finance (“DeFi”) ecosystem, including as decentralized exchanges (“DEXes”) and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (“DAOs”).
Prior to BlockFi, Sergey served as a Managing Director at Greywolf Capital, a multi-strategy, multi-billion-dollar hedge fund in New York, where he had played asset management, trading, risk management, and portfolio management roles over a 15-year period, spanning structured products, special situations and tail risk strategies. Prior to Greywolf he spent two years at a monoline insurer CIFG and 3 years at Moody’s, where he focused on credit derivatives and other complex securitizations.
Sergey holds a Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics from Caltech. He also holds a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) and a Master’s degree in Physics from Tomsk State University (Russia).
