Marc Schneider is an insolvency, restructuring, investment and corporate finance expert with over thirty years of experience as a corporate lawyer, investment banker, and distressed investor. His background includes originating and investing in distressed and special-situations credit and leading cross-border restructuring processes through multiple credit cycles, as well as advising companies on corporate finance transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and capital raising.

In addition to providing expert opinions in large commercial litigation, Marc is the founder of Twelve Lions Advisors, a financial advisory and investment management consulting firm that also provides turnaround and restructuring advisory services to companies and creditors. He is a Certified Turnaround Analyst (CTA) through the Turnaround Management Association and was recently selected to serve on both the TMA’s 2026 Governance Committee and the 2026 Distressed Investing Conference Committee.

His prior experience includes being a Managing Director at Avenue Capital Group for ten years, where he invested several billion dollars in distressed situations, mainly in Europe. He led numerous cross-border restructurings over multiple credit cycles.
Marc led the formation of ad hoc creditor committees and directed negotiations with companies and stakeholders in several different international jurisdictions including, for example, AfriSam in South Africa and Global Closure Systems in France. He also directed Avenue Capital’s European funds’ investments in the basic materials sectors.

Marc also served as a Director in Investment Banking at Salomon Smith Barney, where he focused on the global homebuilders and building products manufacturing sectors, working on cross-border M&A, restructurings and capital raises across the capital structure.

A lawyer by training, Marc spent much of his earlier career in the early 90s at law firms, including Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, working on syndicated loans, asset-backed lending, public and private equity, bond offerings and M&A transactions.

Marc currently serves as Treasurer of the New York Alternative Investment Roundtable, a non-profit organization committed to delivering insights and promoting best practices in the alternative investment industry.

Marc holds a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.
