Jane Summers is a renowned expert in leveraged finance, commercial lending, syndicated lending, loan trading and matters relating to market structure. Having recently retired from legal practice, Jane brings her formidable expertise to her role as an expert, assisting legal teams and the triers of fact navigate high-stakes disputes involving syndicated loans, distressed debt, and complex market structures.

​She is widely recognized as a leading voice on issues central to loan market practices, governance, documentation standards, operational challenges, and regulatory response strategies as well as strategic initiatives designed to address structural issues in the syndicated lending and loan trading markets.

​

​Jane remains, as she has long been, at the forefront of leveraged finance professionals responsible for shaping industry standards and norms.

 

​Jane retired in 2023 as a Chambers-ranked partner at Latham & Watkins LLP, where for nearly 20 years she represented leading global financial institutions and institutional investors in complex secured lending transactions, including cross-border transactions.

​

​Prior to her tenure at Latham & Watkins, she was an EVP and the General Counsel of the Loan Syndications & Trading Association (LSTA), where she led the establishment of foundational standards for the trading and settlement of syndicated loans.

​

​Jane worked in-house at Barclays Capital (Americas) as Deputy General Counsel in the late 1990s, after starting her professional career at O’Melveny & Myers in New York.

​

​She continues to be a thought-leader in the space, writing and speaking about the corporate loan market, the regulatory environment for syndicated lending, loan trading practices, distressed debt investing, and the transition from LIBOR to SOFR as the interest rate benchmark of choice for floating rate loans.

​

​Jane earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania and BA from the University at Albany.
